Date: one year

Deadline: 1st February 2009

Open to: young men and women between 25 and 35 years of age

Announcement follows:

The Aim

The key objectives of Aspen Romania's Young Leaders Programme are:

- To promote and advance progressive leadership within Romanian and European society

- To create a national, eventually regional, network of young future leaders based on shared values and common interests.

The Criteria

The programme is open each year to 20 young men and women between 25 and 35 years of age who have demonstrated leadership potential and initiative in the public or private sector, politics, local government, academia, media or civil society and who are genuinely interested in the challenges facing Romania and/or Europe and committed to playing a role in promoting change. They should have an advanced knowledge of English.

Candidates from Hungary, Ukraine, Republic of Moldavia, Bulgaria, Western Balkan countries and Turkey are welcomed, given the regional character. We will cover all in country (Romania) costs and are prepared to consider favourably well-argued requests for financial support for travel costs to Romania.

The Nomination Process

Candidates for the programme cannot apply personally but must be nominated by recognised leaders from the business or political community or civil society. Nominees may come from any sector of society, but should be known, personally or indirectly, to the nominating person or organisation.

Nominations should be made by sending a letter of recommendation and a completed nomination form to liz.galvez@aspeninstitute.ro. The letter of recommendation should include a summary of the nominee's background (education and qualifications, professional experience of the candidate's qualities and why they have been nominated), as well as confirmation that the candidate is interested in participating in the programme.

The deadline for nominations is 1st February 2009.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a selection panel comprising Aspen Romania members and staff. Selection interviews will take place the week of 23-27 February 2009.
