Concerning the history of the minority Hungarian communities, basic research at various depths has been undertaken for one or other of the minority communities over the past two decades. The project aims, by means of a uniform methodology, to address existing deficiencies by publishing sources and by compiling detailed chronologies. In doing so, it will lay the foundation for the integration, in summary works and in monographs, of Hungarians abroad into the history writing of Hungary and the neighbouring countries. To date, the focus of research has been cultural history, institutional history, forced migration, and various aspects of the reprisal measures. At the same time, however, there is an absence of systematic institutional histories and comprehensive case histories dealing with changes in everyday life – which are necessary in order to understand the functioning of the community as well as changes in community relations.
